From the Learning to Ring series
This is the teaching guide for handchimes found within the Learning to Ring curriculum, and is by far the best book for introducing chimes in the classroom. It is based on the premise that ringing skills should be taught in conjunction with good rhythmic skills, but also is a complete primer for using handchimes and developing the skills to teach them.
Using Handchimes is divided into four sections:
1) the fundamental information necessary to organize a chime program (equipment needs, positioning and assigning chimes, rehearsal planning, scoring, and word rhythms for young classrooms)
2) eleven lessons that teach skills from holding a bell to handling multiple bells, with hints and teaching tips throughout
3) handchimes in general music programs; handchimes in the classroom with lots of practical advice
4) handchimes with special needs -- an overview of various emotional, mental, and physical impairments commonly found in music therapy, school, and senior populations.
