by Tammy Waldrop
Sacred and Secular (with different narration words)
Level 2: 2-3 Octaves
2003, Choristers Guild
This is clever, cute piece for elementary/middle school youth choirs, telling a story that pictures animals with the visuals and sounds of handbells
Five short arrangements with narrator; keys of C and G, all 4/4 time signature. Each section is introduced by a proverb or a bible verse: they include -- All Things Bright and Beautiful using the hymn tune, then The Lion with big shakes, then The Ants with mallets in a march style, then The Whales with large echoes and LVs, then finally The Eagle with rapid 8ths and gyros to simulate flight.
One hymn tune and four original compositions; each selection features one or more techniques with which to teach
•All Things Bright And Beautiful: an introduction to the other four original pieces; very easy Level 2; teaches LV with 8th notes
•The Lion: teaches shakes and mart-lifts
•The Ants: teaches staccato (mallets, plucking, TD) with quarter notes
•The Whales: teaches echo and LV in block chords
•The Eagle: teaches gyro, with 8th notes and quarter notes
Good piece for a youth choir! Tammy is the best at this style of mini-musical presentations
